In the 1939 register his widowed mother [7-2-1881] was a farmer/fruit grower, living at Grove Villa, Beeches Road, West Row. There is one closed record. His father had died in 1935. |

101 Squadron Association state the squadron made more raids than any other in Bomber Command, losing 1,176 crew members in action. In late 1940 they were
operating from RAF West Raynham with Bristol Blenheim Mk IV
Chorley has :-Blenheim IV - ser. no. N6238, c/s SR-? left West Raynham for Hamburg and crashed in the North Sea. The pilot F/O S A Waugh's body was washed ashore just over 2 months later but his crewmen, Sgt R.Cox and Sgt A.W.Norman were never recovered. The squadron log says nine aircraft took off Sunday 24th November 1940 at 17:00 for a raid on Hamburg. Weather meant that only 5 managed to release their bombs over the target. The aircraft of F/O S A Waugh was overdue and presumed lost. W/T bearings were transmitted to the aircraft at 18:28, 18:43 and 18.51. The aircraft was heard on R/T at 19:05 and then no further communication was received. Sgt R.Cox was Air Bomber/Observer and Sgt Norman was W/Op A.Gnr |
